CONCEPT | The CMB Ice Screw Bag

The CMB Ice Screw Bag represents our first proper foray into climbing equipment. We felt the Ultra Stuff Sack made a great starting point for an ice screw bag, and, several prototypes later the CMB Ice Screw Bag was born.

We took our size large Ultra Stuff Sack as a starting point. We know we wanted the bag to have the capacity to store a full gamut of screws, but still be relatively lightweight and packable when not stuffed full. The 14 internal tubes of varying depths carrying screws neatly and securely.

After a couple of prototypes we ended up tweaking the shape of the Ice Screw Bag to make it a squircle. The flatter side walls pack easier into a rucksack and sit flatter against rock or ice when clipped to a biner. It's also a little more stable when clipped to harness. We doubled up the fabric on the base and added a single drainage hole in the centre. The collar features our tried and tested open / close system which is easy to use even when wearing gloves or mitts.

UltraGrid fabric from Challenge Sailcloth is used throughout the entire bag. UltraGrid provides an amazing balance of weight and durability. It also remains flexible and easy to pack and compress. It uses a base of 100% recycled nylon with a double Ultra (UHMWPE) grid which gives incredible tear resistance.
